Eclipse Population Trays v2

My first shot with the Eclipse population trays didn’t work out so well. They were too small, and the stock looked like it had been bumped in the middle of cutting. Fortunately Outfab.com took care of me and re-cut the trays for free.

The cut was perfect this time along with the size. It yields 15 trays like I expected with no issues. The trays I cut are black, but you can use clear, or any color you like. The brown in the big stack of trays is the protective paper coating.

The cubes fit great and the inside corners are all radius-ed to limit cracking on corners. If anyone is interested in having a set cut, you can use this file or I can arrange to have some trays cut for you for $3 a tray plus shipping.

  1. Why does the outer frame get thinner on the bottom at the center?

    • It was an attempt at making the tray a little more visually interesting. Ended up not being significant, but trays still work.

  2. Your blog post mentions that you can order the trays for $3 a piece plus shipping. Does that offer still stand? I only need 6 of course, having just gotten the game for Christmas. I’m assuming you combine orders together to fill up the full sheets of 15? Your version is a much more economical choice than the other laser cut offerings I’ve seen. I also like the thick/thin transition at the bottom, I think it fits the theme nicely and is a cool touch.

I was hoping to get them in “clear”, but would consider another color if it was more readily available.

Let me know if you’re still offering the service, thanks!

    Jon

  3. I’m also interested in these. Please let me know via email if you are still doing them.

    • I don’t have a need for 15 trays, which is the minimum quantity based on Outfab’s 12″ x 12″ sheets. If you’re looking for a clear set, email me and I’ll go ahead and order a sheet that we can split and then send them to you for the same price ($3 a tray plus shipping). You can reach me at jon dot c dot schultz at gmail dot com.

  4. Likewise, I’d love a set of these.

  5. Does outfab.com accept your file as a template straight away?

  6. Outfab accepts the new file straight away. I have a set of 6 black ones if anyone is interested and can cut more if people are interested. Sorry about the delay on replying, I’ve been out of town.

  7. I am interested in having these trays laser cut at my local lab. I have looked at the SVG file and opened it in Inkscape and noticed the 1cm square. In Inkscape this square actually looks like it is not 1cm x 1cm, but more 0.9cm x 0.9cm.. I am worried that if I am to print this SVG at the lasercutter I will end up with trays that are too small… Any advice?

  8. I am interested in a set in black. At this time, my need is only 6 but I would be willing to order 9, if needed. Please let me know. Thank you.
